The East Orange School District is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $24,750 First Tracks Scholarship Grant from Winter4Kids for the 2026–2027 winter season. The award will provide an opportunity for up to 55 East Orange middle school students to participate in the Winter4Kids First Tracks program at no financial contribution from the students or the District.
Through First Tracks, students will participate in six structured skiing or snowboarding lessons designed to introduce them to winter sports while building confidence, independence, and outdoor skills. All necessary equipment—including helmets, skis or snowboards, boots, and outdoor clothing—is provided, along with meals and snacks during the program day.
Beyond learning to ski or snowboard, the program focuses on developing resilience, decision-making, communication, confidence, and self-mastery, helping students grow both on and off the mountain.
Applications into this afterschool program will open in October, and all district middle school students are welcome to participate. The winter sports lessons will begin January 2027.
This partnership reflects the East Orange School District’s commitment to expanding access to enriching experiences that promote physical activity, social-emotional development, confidence, and exposure to opportunities students may not otherwise experience. This award was secured through the efforts of the East Orange School District Grant Team, led by Dr. Dawn Stokes-Tyler, with team members Kori Cahoon, Jackie Nisenson, and Willie Everett. Their collaborative work reflects the District’s continued commitment to identifying and securing resources that expand meaningful opportunities for East Orange students.
