Philosophy of Art

The visual arts are naturally designed to liberate the mind, and create a comfortable environment for students to explore and conceptualize their imagination into works of art. Liberation and purpose are not gained by chance, but by thinking critically, having a growth mindset, and being innovative. The visual arts encourages students to think and perform outside of the status quo, as they explore society, history, and culture through the creative, historical, performance, and critiquing processes of making art. An "aesthetic experience” is an essential part of the academic curriculum for the achievement of interpersonal and intra-personal growth, as well as gaining understanding that life is art. The visual and performing arts are where all content areas merge – allowing students to understand that literacy, mathematics, science, and history, are essential forms of art that are apparent in everyday life.
